Ski & Snowboard
All day the sun on your face and powder under your skis: 350 km of slopes make it possible. And the weather! The Upper Engadine is downright spoiled by the sun. Thanks to a height of 1800-3303 meters above sea level, snow is guaranteed on the Engadine mountains. Skiing here is a virtual 'snow amusement park', with a stunning view of the frozen Engadine lakes landscape!
Cross-country skiing
A Mecca for the silver track lovers: the spirit infects everyone! Once you get your stride in the comprehensive 180 km network of cross-country ski trails, you will feel the spirit! Classic style and dynamic-skating style cross-country skiers can easily follow the groomed tracks made unerringly throughout the Engadine.
Top-groomed trails traverse the landscape of the Upper Engadine. Whether you are training for the Engadine Ski Marathon, want to test your limits in perfect tracks, or glide rather late at night on the lighted trails, you will find for your every mood the perfect track. Trail conditions and much more can be found here.
Winter Hiking
In order to experience the wintry wonders of nature, one can stroll through woods and lakes, surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery. Winter walkers will find paths suitable for wheelchairs or baby buggies, and simple forest paths--everything your heart desires.
If everything is covered in deep snow in the Engadine, an even deeper and purer sense of tranquility is found in the valley. You'll feel it when you hear your every step in the crunching snow. Up to 150 km of maintained winter hiking trails transport you into a fairy tale land. The nature walks are unique and therefore also well marked; you'll be lost only in happiness, not in the landscape.
Ice skating
In each of the Upper Engadine villages during the winter months there is an ice rink for skating, hockey and curling. Some skating rinks are open in the evenings. The ice arena in St. Moritz Bad Ludains offers year-round artificial ice. Information on opening times of the rinks and the rental of skates and equipment can be found here.
Sledding
Once the temperatures drop and the first snow has set, side roads and trails covered in snow are transformed into sledding paths! In addition to smaller slopes in the valley, there are official toboggan runs. The famous toboggan run from Preda to Bergün, along the Albula Railway Line (recorded in summer 2008 in the UNESCO World Heritage List) is close and easy to access by train. Another very exciting sledding run is found at the nearby mountain station Muottas Muragl, with stunning views over the Upper Engadine lakes, down to Punt Muragl. More possibilities for sledding and toboggan runs and can be found here.
Families
Engadine St. Moritz is the ideal holiday destination for the whole family. Nature offers indoor and outdoor spaces for young and old. A memorable experience for the whole family is a romantic horse-drawn carriage ride in the beautiful, snow-covered Lake Staz surroundings. In the large ski areas there are kids' park facilities for the very young, for their first attempts at skiing. Other family offers in the Upper Engadine can be found here.
